# Renaming Slices

I have a project in production that uses Slice Machine with NextJS. I am hoping to rename a slice as its use-case has evolved and a new name is needed to reflect what it's for. Considering the slice is already in use in many published documents, is it possible to rename the slice (`name` and `id`) without it breaking the currently published documents that use the slice?

This isn't possible at the moment, this is being tracked as a feature request here:
