I want the option to be able to embed quotes within the body of articles. Using slice independently will only allow me to insert it above or below the body as far as I know.

It sounds like you might want to structure the whole article using Slices, rather than just adding quotes as Slices. You could create a "Rich Text" Slice, and then you could intersperse text with quotes.
Here's an example of a content model for a blog, which might be similar to what you want to do:
