Slice name length limit

Hi there,

We are currently working on a Slice library for all of our projects. Since there is a lot of slice variations, I need to use slice names to show differences between them in addition to the covers.

But I found there is a length limit in these names, which is not appropiate for describing variations, so I have to shorten words, use initials or acronyms, and it looks horrible.

For example, I have a Content slice, with the following variations among others:

  • Text (center) + Picture (right)
  • Text (center) + Picture (right) / Full height

Look, the last one is wrong. I was thinking about why is this limit set, and I think it's just a UI limitation to keep names in 1 line:

My suggestion, at least to have a few more characters if you don't want to have 2 lines, is the following:

Also, I would love to see the following features in the SliceMachine:

  • Change variation ID in addition to the name
  • Reorder variations
  • Remove the default variation concept, instead use the first variation in the custom order as the Slice preview
  • Copy&Paste variation to duplicate them, as you already have in Prismic editor
