To speed up development time it would be great if there were a quick way to download/export the JSON from your custom types that also names the file semantically with the relative custom type.
Perhaps a CTA next to the Disable option

I'm suggesting that there should be a shortcut on the masks page that enables you to quickly download the json for custom types, and name it as per the API id

Is there any reason that using the Custom Types API doesn't work for your case? I'm just trying to understand better so I can communicate this to the dev team.
