Rich text images lose custom labels after editing

Images I have in document text seem to lose their custom labels after editing.

Here is what I did

1. Created a document with a rich text section. The section includes images.
2. I defined a custom label called text-center, which I applied to some images. This works fine and my images get the custom label applied.
3. Edit the document in any way, republish. The labels applied to the images have disappeared.
