View all drafts (Filter)

This other topic How to get a list of unpublished documents? asks how to query for unpublished documents on the API.

I have a similar question but all I want to do is see all documents with draft versions in the writing room. It's quite easy for in-progress edits to get lost amid changes which were published. When there are hundreds of documents this situation gets more and more common.

Don't just point me to the "releases" feature, please. I know about that already, and though yes it can be used to group unpublished content, that doesn't help with things which were edited in a more ad-hoc way and which were left unfinished through distraction or priority shifts or waiting on a third party.

Please add a filtering option for document status. I really expected "planned" to have not just releases but also unpublished drafts. I could have sworn this feature used to exist, in fact, but I could be mistaken.

Hey Bart,

I think this is a really good idea. I can see how having lots of drafts across hundreds of documents can become hard to navigate. Having a 'draft' filter like you suggest would be a great solution to this.

It's not something that we had in the past, but I would really like to see it in the future.

I've added this as a feature request in our tracker for the team to see, obviously this isn't something that we are working on right now. If/when this ever changes, we'll contact you here. The team is planning some updates for the Dashboard in the future and I think this would be a great addition, so I'll make sure they see this.

Hey @bart thanks for the feedback.

Can I ask you why you're looking for this?
Is it because you would like to find all work that was started and never finish in order to get back to working on this? If yes, was it content that was ready to be released and needed to be reviewed before being published, or just content that was started but never finished?

Are you looking specifically at your own content or all content that the team created?

Is it because you're looking to clean up your repository?

I know it can sound like a lot of questions but this will help me a lot.

Hi, Renaud. Been a while since we communicated.

It's a feature I've looked for several times in the past in various situations:

  • to find anything I may have forgotten I was working on
  • to find anything my client may have forgotten they were working on (both of these usually towards launch time of a new website)
  • to clean up drafts which were created as tests of new website features etc, for example if I developed a new slice type but it doesn't have an actual usage yet on the website

But I was prompted to finally ask about it now because my current client asked me specifically if this feature exists. They are planning to migrate hundreds of blog posts and tutorial pages to Prismic, and doubtless they're expecting to have a lot of things in progress at once. When some are ready before others, finding the unfinished ones is going to get harder and harder.

So far I haven't worked on a project with Prismic where there was a needs-review workflow, so that particular suggestion of yours hasn't applied to me yet. Though I imagine a list of things which are awaiting review would be valuable in such situations.

That's never much mattered to me, but I can imagine filtering to only your own drafts vs all drafts would be useful sometimes, especially in repositories that change a lot and have many writers.
