Copying Content to another Locale destroys media links in Rich Text fields

Simplified scenario:

Page Document has slice with Rich Text field. This field has a link in text to a media (PDF for download).

Duplicating this to another local removes that link to media and requires re-linking.

Is there a solution or workaround for this, without having to manually relink this?
