Title Field In Slice Machine / Data Transference

Hi Prismic Support,

We are currently working on a plan to transform older slices created by using the legacy builder to now be created using the latest slice machine. There are a few things that we are hoping that you can shed some light on.

First and foremost, when pulling up slice machine we are noticing the absence of the "Title" field in slice machine. Given that this is a valid field in the legacy builder and one we used frequently, we are wondering if this was deprecated or if there is an error on Prismic's end via the slicemachine. We've checked Prismic's documentation and the Title field seems to still be a valid field.

Secondly, we wanted to ask how does the transference of data work between legacy built slices and slices made with the slicemachine?
We've created a separate repo to test the this and it seems that if we were to create a 1:1 copy of a slice, replace it in its respective custom type, and delete the legacy built slice we would lose the data/content in that document. So it seems that in order to fully move content over we would end up having to manually go through every document and replace the content/data.

I know that the migration api is currently in the works and is due for beta release soon but we figured it would be best to ask as we are at a bit of an impasse. We'd love to use slice machine but the potential loss of content/data makes migration untenable.
Thank you for all of your help.

Hi Vincent,

I'll be happy to help you with this.

So a few things. We are working to bring Slice Machine migration to you and we are expecting to release a v1 this week :tada: I would recommend waiting for that release.

But to answer you questions:

The title field is just a Rich Text so we decided to simplify this by only having that option which you can configure to only have titles.

Like you notice simply creating new Slices will mean a loss of data. That's why it's best to wait for the new tool which will upgrade your Slices and link all the existing data for you.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks.
