I've set up my front end to use the alt text set on multimedia assets in the Media Library so that editors can reuse images without having to worry about re-setting the alt text and copyright info every time. That's great, but I'm wondering how that works for i18n. If I have a post in English and want to create a Spanish version with the same images, what's the best way to manage metadata for those images without having to upload them again?
Hey Justin!
You can add unique Alt texts to images between languages. You just need to write the desired. alt text below the Image field while editing your documents. This will override the one set in the metadata.

The provided solution is only a work-around. You really want to store the alt text of an image in different languages with the image and not with the document.
Hi Peter,
Currently, there is no other way to do this. How are you imaging the alt text would be stored with the image in the media library? What would be your ideal solution?
Thanks.
Hi Phil,
I understand, but it would be good to add this to the feature request list similar to a few other requests related to language support. As I said, in an ideal solution, you want to manage the alt text in the media library. Currently the media library only supports one alt text which isn't bound to any language. You could use the existing field for the master locale and as a default and offer for all other configured locale another alt text field. When i then edit a document, I add the image as I currently do and the system would automatically pull in the alt text that is linked to the same locale as the document is linked to or show the default alt text in case a language specific one is not defined.
OK, that's a really clear solution thank you. I can see how this would make your editing process faster. I really like this idea. I've added a feature tag here and I'll this to our tracker.
For the moment this isn't in the team's roadmap and isn't being worked on. If/when that ever changes or the team needs to gather more information they'll update everyone here.
Thanks.
Thanks

Is there any news on Prismic supporting multiple languages for image alt text?
Hello @peter2, this isn't implemented yet. But you can always add a specific alt tag to your translations. Images are individual to each document so adding a unique alt to each one overrides the one setup in the media library.
You suggested this already in the initial response, but my opinion hasn't changed. You really don't want to manage alt text for images with the document, but with the image.
I understand. This is the alternative that exists at the moment. I'll add your comment to the feature request.
