Rename media filename after upload

Would be great to be able to rename a file with in Media (ie Screen Shot 2021-09-26 at 21.15.00.png to mackenzie-basin-map.png)

Re-uploading the image then hunting down where it's use, replace, reset size and re-add translated alt text is a huge pain point for us.

Hey @will2, thanks for the feedback. I'll mark your post as a feature request.

For the moment, what you can do is modify the alt text for the image.

Hello everybody,

we want to rename our uploaded files after a Upload to the Prismic-CDN. Is there any option to rename the Files/Images? or do we need to download the hole Media back, rename it, upload it again and set it to the right slice?

Hi @SebastianGebhardt,

This isn't possible at the moment but is at the moment, so the only way to do this is manually removing and reuploading as you suggested. We are tracking this as a feature request here though.

Hey @vminds , this isn’t available and it’s not on the roadmap. The file name in the CDN will still be the original name used when the asset was uploaded to the media library.

That said, there is a new field in the Media UI that lets you rename the file for display purposes. When you open a media item, you’ll see the Media title field, which can help you identify and select assets more easily in the UI.

Hey @Pau , do you know if it's possible to update the Media title field via the Asset API? I've had a look in the docs but it doesn't mention anything.

I have a client on the Platinum plan with ~33,000 items in their Media Library and wants to update the media title for all these items to something more user friendly. For example they'd like to map all the titles in the Media Library UI to something like:

filename-looks-like-this.jpg -> Filename Looks Like This

Hi, @kieranstartup the behavior is still the same. Renaming a media asset after it has been uploaded isn’t currently supported.

The current workaround is still to upload the asset again with the desired filename and replace any existing references to the old asset.
