As often discussed here (a few links below), the Media Library is one of the biggest pain-points on Prismic.
I find all the content editors I work with completely ignoring the Media Library, and instead keeping the files organised locally on the computer. They re-upload images to Prismic each time, even if the same image already exists on Prismic, meaning the same file might eventually need to be downloaded multiple times on websites as well.
They all wish to have, and typically have tried, to drag & drop the file directly on the image field itself without needing to open the Media Library in the first place.
I would love to see it working this way, and can immediately see the improvements in the content managing experience. Obviously the Media Library could still exist just as before, allowing users to pick images from there as well.
As a bonus, in order to avoid the same image being uploaded multiple times, behind the scenes Prismic could check if the image has already been uploaded and automatically link to that instead of the uploaded one.
Hey Jere, thank you very much for your feedback, it is always very much appreciated
As you may have already noticed in the posts that you linked, we mention that we always have in mind the plan to modify the media library and the writing room in general. So you can be sure that improvements will eventually come!
We are aware that, it is natural for people coming from other content editor programs where you can drag-n-drop items to expect to be able to do the same in Prismic.
Right now, you can still drag and drop Media files into the Library, just by Accessing the library through a document.
We'll keep this thread as an open feature request and if there's any news about it, we'll make sure to add an update here.
I'm aware one is able to drag & drop to the Media Library.
My suggestion is not that much about how the file is uploaded, but rather where. Allowing file uploading directly on the form itself, without jumping back and forth to the media library, would allow to continue content editing whilst the assets are uploading making the whole editing process faster.
Ideally one could initiate multiple upload simultaneously. Currently when one uploads multiple files to the Media Library, it's a true pain in the butt to select those files back to the document. What makes this even harder is that the order of the files in the Media Library depends on when the file uploading finished, rather than what the original order was when upload was initiated.
